    Description

The landscape of manufacturing platforms has developed rapidly in recent years. Many companies are trying to shape the manufacturing of tomorrow with a variety of business models. With shorter product cycles and increasing pressure to respond quickly to volatile market demands, platforms are a promising solution for providing scalable capacity. Starting from 3D printing, a range of suppliers for a wide variety of manufacturing processes has meanwhile been established, e.g. laser cutting, CNC machining and injection molding. These platforms can meanwhile cover far more than the manufacturing of prototypes. This presentation provides a compact overview of the prevailing business models and the associated risks and potentials for both customers and manufacturing companies. The presentation will focus on both the international developments and the effects on Germany as a manufacturing location.
