Hwacheon is a pioneer of the machine tools manufacturing sector in South Korea and has a long and successful history. Established initially as a straightforward foundry in 1952, the company quickly grew to be the country's premier machine tools manufacturer. A family-run business to this day, it is one of the few manufacturers to consistently make key machine elements and assemblies in-house, from casting through to production. The latest product from Hwacheon is the D2-5AX five-axis machining center it recently launched on the European market.
The compact and robust D2-5AX is intended primarily for use in workshops, training centers and laboratories and has been designed for tool, jig and mold production. The use of high-quality components, spindles with oil-air lubrication that have been specially made in the company's own plant and an impressive drive output with acceleration values of 0.7 G all ensure excellent machining precision. Besides the standard configuration, which comprises a 37 kilowatt, 12,000 rpm spindle and BBT-40 tool shank, there are also spindles for die and mold making that achieve 20,000 or 24,000 rpm and a high-torque 14,000 rpm spindle for HPC milling applications. Four of the five axes on the D2-5AX can be controlled simultaneously as standard, with an option for incorporating the fifth axis into simultaneous operation. Featuring a gantry-type design, the machining center has a circular table that is 600 millimeters in diameter and has an ergonomic working height of 950 millimeters. The basic configuration also features adaptive feed adjustment, overload monitoring for tool breakage and collisions, compensation for axis misalignment using a calibration sphere and a measurement sensor for boosting productivity.
