As the exhibitors from Bilz explain, their Vidat line deploys special vibration dampening technology. The extensions create an integrated damper and therefore absorb the vibrations relatively quickly, resulting in a more or less vibration- and rattle-free operation. Long, slim extensions, in particular, have a tendency to chatter and vibrate. The vibration-reduced extensions are seen as especially suitable for use in the processing of long projections, in areas that are difficult to access such as deep cavities. The extensions can be used immediately and enable a considerably higher cutting depth (ap), which considerably increases the material removal rate. Therefore, as the German company maintains, compared to standard extensions with the same projecting length, processing can be effected in a much shorter time, and can be done so with an improved tool life and process security, resulting in a smoother and chatter-free workpiece surface. In the Thermogrip design, the extensions have an h6 shank tolerance and can both be shrunk in and clamped with other clamping tools for straight shanks. The extensions are available in a broad range of tool diameters from 6 mm to 20 mm for total lengths of 210 mm or 300 mm and are reportedly suitable for up to 50 bar internal coolant supplies.
Trends Cutting Tools
Bilz has expanded the Vidat range of vibration-damping extensions with new versions for shell milling cutters for M12 and M16 with the lengths 250 and 300 mm.
