The EDAF series has been given an extensive facelift by Makino. The machines not only come in a new design but now feature the company's Heat technology that has been available up to now in the U series of wire EDM machines. According to the exhibitors, they also have improved feed rates up to 5,000 mm/min in the X- and Y-axes. Another feature, HS-Rib, reportedly gives the Z-axis a jump speed of 20 m/min, which represents a 31 percent increase over the current model. The new Heat generator is more powerful, up from 40 A to 80 A peak current in standard, which is claimed to reduce power consumption by 44 percent. In addition, operators can now benefit from programmable flushing pressure, fine flow rate adjustment, an inverter controlled pump, and an accurate pressure gauge. All in all, the facelift is seen as a significant upgrade in performance and usability. The German company's new-generation Hyper-i Control is said to be easier and faster to use irrespective of operator experience. Its operating panel features flick, pan, pinch, spread and swipe functionality in smartphone and tablet style.
