The retrofitting of an existing unprofitable system is the alternative to new investments. Retrofit and service is particularly important for XXL machines, where the purchase of a new machine also involves costs for the periphery such as the foundation and media connections. By having the machine retrofitted, as the exhibitors from Schiess point out, the customer is saved this effort and obtains a nearly-new machine at a lower cost. At the same time, the renovated machine fits into an existing layout and fulfills the current technical requirements. The retrofit on offer from the German company is reportedly independent of manufacturer and machining processes and involves the overhauling of both machine tools and components. A full service is provided that embraces set-up, alignment, commissioning, troubleshooting, test machining, and customer-specific requests. Preventive measures are also offered to guard against machine failures and downtimes, for instance in the form of service and maintenance contracts.
