It apparently does not matter whether the STL data are generated by measuring machines or grinding simulations. The re-design converts STL models of the cutting tools into high-quality 3D models and makes them available in the Step format for CAD systems or the FEM machining simulation with Advant Edge FEM. Comparisons between designed, simulated or already manufactured tools are carried out quickly and easily with the 3D Step models. According to the German developers, any deviations are immediately apparent. As a re-engineering solution, the new software is precisely designed for the requirements of cutting tools. A goal-oriented tool design based on real milling, drill and reamer geometries for the digital twin completes the gap between manufactured tools and the CAD or FEM system. As is claimed, the product is a key solution for moving tool development into the virtual environment of Industry 4.0 and opens up new possibilities for tool design.
