As the exhibitors from Lach Diamant explain with reference to their corporate history, the first CO-type patent was issued in 1999, a laser-cut chip groove for PCD materials. However, chip breakers with a manufactured chip groove proved to be only suitable to a limited extent for a process-reliable, controlled chip breaking of long-chipping aluminum alloys. An active chip breaker was seen as the best solution. This had to show outstanding performance during rough machining as well as fine finishing. The PCD IC-plus, already announced as the "world's best" chip breaker, was born. According to the manufacturers, while CO-type chip breakers only redirect the chips, the new product that has been developed will already guide chips with a cutting depth (ap) of 0.01 mm. The cutting depth can be increased up to the maximum length of the cutting edge, for instance up to a maximum of 5.0 mm for an ISO cutting insert VCMT. The PCD chip breaker will be demonstrated in action at EMO Hannover 2017. Moreover, all users will be invited to participate in a test and take part in a special prize draw.
