To meet market demands, Hofmann has extended its HD series with the HD-400. Thanks to the center height of 400 mm, very large workpieces weighing up to 8 metric tons (with steady) can be machined. With the optional water-cooled torque motor, which can be supplied from different manufacturers according to customer requirements, driving torques of up to 1,040 Nm are feasible. The engine is directly connected to the dividing spindle without gear speed, which allows high dividing spindle speeds of up to 200 rpm over a long period of time. Like the smaller models in the series, the HD-400 is almost free from wear and free of clearance due to the lack of a gearbox, as the manufacturers stress. A high precision can reportedly be achieved by the use of direct measuring systems, whereby different systems can be used according to the required dividing accuracy. The spindle is extremely solid and is mounted in a heavy-duty, axial-radial-angular ball bearing. Moreover, every rotary table is equipped with a safety clamping, which reliably holds the spindle with the workpiece in its last position in the event of power loss or an emergency stop. Hofmann Measuring and Dividing Technology is one of four production companies within the Müller Group.
