The exhibitors from Bass will be unveiling an innovative, patented groove form for thread machining at the EMO Hannover 2017. The new development Multi-Groove, abbreviated as MG, provides both a clean component as well as a clean threading tool and therefore drastically increases tool life, the manufacturers insist. As they explain the functional principle, both the part and tool can be especially often contaminated during roll tapping with minimum quantity lubrication (MQL). As a result, tool life decreases, making a subsequent component cleaning necessary. This contamination is caused by material particles moving out of the ridges of the furrows of the tapped thread during processing and then accumulating there. The company has therefore developed the multi-groove form as a result of intensive engineering work and testing. Thanks to its special geometry, contaminations of the tool are already removed during the manufacturing process and both the tool and part come out of the machining process clean. In comparison to the traditional groove form, tool life can reportedly be increased by up to 30 percent.
