When the specialists at Wema Vogtland talk about modernizing machine tools, they reportedly have three tasks in mind. The first of these is overhauling, which means restoring the original condition of a machine by the partial or complete replacement of components and sub-assemblies. The second activity is the actual modernization, which means increasing machine performance by replacing or adding such components as a CNC control, a tool changer, a pallet system or a high-performance spindle. The third task is retooling, the adaption of a machine to new machining processes. As is explained, the purpose of retooling is not a mere productivity increase, but a modification of the entire machining process for new tasks and workpieces. The company will be presenting its expertise in modernizing internal and external cylindrical grinding machines at the EMO Hannover 2017. The capabilities demonstrated are claimed to cover cylindrical grinding machines of virtually any brand and to embrace a spectrum ranging from overhauling and retrofitting to upgrading and retooling. Numerous projects have apparently been already completed for customers in Europe and China.
