The decisive factor for high-performance milling is the material removal rate, according to Fahrion. Increasingly powerful machines and controls along with better substrates, coatings and geometries for the cutting tools aim at a further increase in the material removal rate. In order to transfer these performance increases from the cutting edge to the machine more effectively, the German company points to the advantages of its new Ultra Power Collet chucks (UPC), which have been specifically developed and optimized for such applications. The UPC holders are described as a consistent further development of the Centro-P family of holders. In combination with the newly developed UPC clamping nut and the WD collet, the manufacturers claim to have produced an innovative system solution. As is usual for the product family, the collet is completely seated in the cone. In combination with the patented double guidance between holder and clamping nut as well as the trapezoidal thread for the ideal force transmission, this arrangement is said to ensure a high concentricity and optimum stiffness for the overall system. The solution uses either the familiar high-precision (HP) collets with a concentricity of 0.002 mm or the WD collet with integrated extraction protection that has recently been introduced.
