With all the hype surrounding the automobile industry, people often forget that Germany's economic strength mainly comes from medium-sized enterprises - often owner-run family businesses that are frequently global players and market leaders in their particular segment. SCHUNK GmbH & Co. KG. is one such example. Currently offering over 11,000 standard components, this market leader and industry specialist offers the world’s largest range of gripping systems and clamping technology from a single source. For a company to achieve and maintain this position, one of the things it needs is a great deal of innovative prowess - something SCHUNK has stood for ever since it was founded in 1945. And if a company is not currently breaking new ground with revolutionary innovations, it needs to put just as much passion into optimizing its tried-and-tested components.
With that in mind, SCHUNK decided to revisit one of its flagship products - the PGN-plus gripper. Permanent lubrication in the multi-tooth guidance was just one of the new features added to further enhance the most tried-and-tested gripper on the market - now known as the PGN-plus-P - setting yet another technological benchmark for this gripper class. The result is a system that, according to the manufacturer, is guaranteed to be maintenance-free for its entire service life if used under proper conditions. Not only that, but this gripper boasts a whole range of new enhancements. For instance, thanks to the 15 percent increase in the size of its oval piston surfaces and the supports, which are now up to 40 percent larger, positioned between the six load-bearing shoulders of the patented multi-tooth guidance system, the PGN-plus-P can now achieve a greater gripping force and can also be used with gripper fingers that are up to 50 percent longer.
