The new Powerbore holder type was designed for drilling holes with depths of more than 5xD in a reliable and chatter-free manner. The much larger cross-section of the holder combined with helical chip flutes is claimed to enormously increase the torsional strength compared with the traditional cylindrical shape. The chip flow is supported by the form of the chip flutes. The holders have been developed using FEM (Finite Element Method) and are said to perform well in deep holes up to 1,000 mm and in difficult materials like stainless steel. They are available for all drilling diameters from 39 to 160 mm on request. The available shanks include cylindrical, steep-taper, HSK and ABS versions.
