Valdarno has been manufacturing hot shearing lines for carbon steel, stainless steel and titanium parts for over 60 years. The company will be presenting one of its latest fully automatic lines designed for rings with diameters up to 1,000 mm, for instance for bearings and the agricultural machinery and aviation sectors, where the cold-shearing of the special steels used is not possible. The line comprises a 1,200°C hot shear, a 2,000 kW in-line induction oven, and an automatic loader for square and round bars with a diameter up to 180 mm and a length of 10 meters. As the manufacturers explain the process, the hot slug is picked up by a robot after hot shearing and placed in a high-speed pre-forming hydraulic press of 1,000 tons. This preformed piece is then picked up by a second robot and moved beneath a forging and punching press. It is then conveyed inside a ring mill for final rolling. Once the ring has received its final diameter, it is taken up by a further robot and placed under a 600-ton calibrating press. All these operations are automatically controlled and all the final ring sizes are checked by an appropriate laser system. A dedicated remote PLC manages the setup of the line at every change of the ring size.
