Mikron Tool describes the latest member of their Crazymill Cool family as a drill-milling cutter that is one of a kind. The tool, which is available in diameters from 1 to 8 mm, makes it possible to plunge in all materials vertically (drilling) up to 1xd and then to continue horizontally with the milling of slots or pockets. This new end mill is said to be excellent for machining even nickel-based materials as well as metals such as stainless steel and titanium. As the Swiss company explains, the enlarged chip space at the head absorbs chips when plunging (drilling) and the large flute spaces enable a good chip evacuation. Stable cutting edges, cutting to the center, avoid any sticking and breaking out due to vibrations, which is often a problem when plunging with a milling cutter. Integrated cooling channels continuously provide the cutting edges in each position with coolant, thus avoiding overheating, increasing tool life and contributing to maximum cutting speed performance.
