The Crazydrill Cool SST-Inox is a carbide cutting tool for deep holes in stainless steel and heat-resistant chromium-cobalt (CrCo) alloys. The tool is available in a diameter range from 1 to 6 mm and with drilling depths of 15 and 20xd. According to the manufacturers from Mikron Tool, its special feature is drilling in one step, with no pecking necessary, at high speed and with feed up to the total depth. This is apparently made possible by a new geometry with chip-breaking effect in the front area and a rear chip flute area with extended flute shape to ensure perfect chip removal. In addition, two helicoidal cooling channels in a drop shape ensure a constant cooling performance. They are claimed to enable up to four times more coolant flow compared to channels with a circular cross-section. As the company points out, this results in an increased tool life because any overheating of the cutting edges is avoided right from the beginning. For small diameters below 3 mm, an additional power chamber provides sufficient coolant flow to the twisted cooling channels. This powerful cooling allows easier chip breaking and a more effective flushing out of the spiral flutes.
