The new Arcut X is a circular arc milling cutter whose curved surface area has a radius of curvature of up to 1,000 mm. Thanks to this large radius of curvature, it is reportedly possible to realize larger step-over distances without any significant impact on the theoretical scallop height. As the manufacturers maintain, the result is highly precise surfaces with brilliant surface characteristics that can minimize the amount of time spent polishing. Since the tip of the milling cutter has a perfectly spherical form, it also claimed to offer all of the plus points of a robust ball nose end mill. The tool concept integrates high finishing performance with almost perfect surface qualities and is therefore seen as an excellent solution for flat component surfaces. The advantages over conventional ball nose end mills are specified as a much larger possible step-over distance, the avoidance of undesirable step effects, and short tooling resulting in high stability and a greater resistance to vibration.
