Both pieces are deep-nitrided, ground, lapped as well as paired on lubrication film thickness and mounted with precision key connections ready for installation. Depending on the diameter of the boring spindle, the radial gap between boring spindle and hollow spindle is only a few micrometers. Therefore, hollow spindles are ground inside cylindrically for example over a whole length of 1,400 mm and paired with a boring spindle with a radial clearance of 4 to 5 micrometers. In so doing, a balancing quality of less than G1 is achieved and permits extremely smooth running at speeds of 4,000 rpm and more. For large-scale boring mills, the manufacturers have already produced boring spindles with a diameter of 225x6,000 mm length or a diameter of 260x5,000 mm length, paired with corresponding hollow spindles, and are prepared for even larger dimensions. Tool tapers are fabricated according to customer needs, in SK 50 or other sizes, Big Plus designs or tool fixtures for HSK hollow cone shafts. The high precision within the range of angular seconds and an optimized contact pattern are the result of maximum grinding precision, the exhibitors insist.
