Professor Dr.-Ing. Jürgen Fleischer, born 1961, studied mechanical engineering at the University Karlsruhe (TH) then worked as a research associate at the Institute of Machine Tools and Industrial Engineering (wbk) at the University Karlsruhe (TH). After finishing his PhD in 1989 he became head of the 'Handling and Assembly Systems' group at the same institute. Between 1992 and 1999 he was in several leading positions at the DaimlerChrysler group. Afterwards he was responsible for the 'Regional Trains' Business Unit of Bombardier Transportation in Berlin. On February 1st 2003 he accepted the appointment as professor and head of the Institute of Production Science (wbk). From April 1st 2008 until October 1st 2010 he took a sabbatical from the academic post in order to serve as Chairman of the Executive Board of the international Machine Tool Group MAG Industrial Automation Systems. Since 2012 he is also a Visiting Professor at the Tongji University in Shanghai, China.
