With the Grindstar high-speed grinding machine, Erwin Junker claims to have optimized the production process for manufacturing roller bearings for the aviation industry. Thanks to the new machine, the process is reportedly now up to six times quicker than the traditional process. The major challenge has been to increase output despite a reduction in the number of machines. As the German company explains, the original process required five different machines, on which blanks were processed in several steps, namely cutting, barrel finishing, centerless grinding, double-wheel surface grinding, and finally plunge-cut grinding. In contrast, the new and improved technology from the exhibitors enables all processing steps to be integrated into a single work step, while also improving the level of quality. The unexpectedly high service life of the grinding wheels in practical use is said to be 200,000 to 300,000 parts.
