The Heckert X40 and Heckert H50 machining centers from Swiss-based Starrag AG, which were recently showcased at EMO Hannover 2017, boast a range of impressive features. They take up a full 30 percent less space than previous models, while also increasing productivity by a striking 15 percent. The centers have been engineered from the ground up and have been designed from the outset for five-axis simultaneous machining. However, they are also available as a four-axis version on request. Based on the proven concept of HEC machines, whose key feature is their outstanding rigidity, the new Heckert machines are a particularly attractive alternative to multispindle centers, due to their small footprint and the resulting increase in productivity per unit of area.
A further advantage lies in the two machines' modularity, which cuts the delivery time of custom-built centers to just ten weeks. While the machine base has a large proportion of identical parts, which facilitates servicing, the stand and, in particular, the spindle, at the heart of the machine, offer a wide range of variations. Customers can thus choose between universal HSK63 spindles, high-speed spindles for dynamic aluminum machining and high-torque HSK100 spindles, as required for machining titanium, for example. A new user interface has also been added that increases users' options significantly and also simplifies operation, thanks to a 24-inch multitouch screen.
