Cecimo is the European umbrella association of machine tool manufacturers, consisting of 15 national associations and representing some 1,300 industrial enterprises in Europe (EU, EFTA and Turkey). The countries represented by Cecimo account for approximately 98 percent of machine tool production in Europe and over a third of production worldwide. The industry has a total of more than 150,000 employees, achieving sales of 26 billion euros in 2017.
The umbrella association represents the standpoint of international machine tool manufacturers at the European level. The focus is on creating the ideal economic conditions for the machine tool industry as a prerequisite for innovations, with the goal of helping European machine tool manufacturers expand their global leadership position. To create the necessary framework, Cecimo is in constant dialog with the EU authorities, monitoring all activities of European legislation relevant to machine tool production.
Cecimo produces statistics and economic forecasts and regularly publishes research and development results stemming from European research projects. Cecimo is also committed to environmental protection and sustainability. Of particular note here is the setting of environmental standards for the machine tool industry and compliance with EU environmental design legislation.
Cecimo is also responsible for Blue Competence Machine Tools – a European-wide sustainability initiative that promotes the optimization of energy consumption and the responsible use of other resources for more efficient production in consumer industries.
Just one year after its foundation in 1950, Cecimo launched the European Machine Tool Exhibition (E.M.T.E.), which was first staged in Paris in 1975 under the name of EMO®. EMO® is a registered trademark of Cecimo and is supported by all 15 member associations. As the world’s premier trade fair, EMO Hannover alternates with EMO Milano , taking place every two years in the cycle of Hannover – Hannover – Milan.
