CECIMO is the European Association for the Machine Tool Industries in Europe. CECIMO brings together 15 national associations for machine tool builders which represent approximately 1600 industrial enterprises in Europe (EU, EFTA, Turkey). Countries represented within CECIMO cover more than 97 per cent of total machine tool production in Europe and more than 40 per cent worldwide. The industry counts for over 150,000 employees and a turnover of 17 billion euros in 2009.

CECIMO voices the position of the machine tool industries towards the European authorities and stakeholders and strives for the creation of an ideal business environment in which the European machine tool industry can thrive, innovate and improve to maintain its leadership in the world. Activities performed by CECIMO include statistics and economic forecasts, EU policy and legislation monitoring, dialogue with European authorities on behalf of the industry, dissemination of R&D results within European research projects and promotion of innovation. The recently launched CECIMO Self-Regulatory Initiative is aimed at setting environmental performance standards for the machine tool industry, promoting energy efficiency and ensuring compliance with the ecodesign legislation of the EU.

Since its creation in 1950, CECIMO has committed itself to the promotion of the machine tools industry worldwide and the E.M.T.E (European Machine Tools Exhibitions) was created for this reason in 1951. It was organised for the first time under the name of EMO® in 1975 in Paris. EMO® is a registered trademark by CECIMO and receives the support of fifteen CECIMO member associations.
