Combined machine for shorter production flows (0477)

The new Unicen 504 Kombimasch turning and milling center from Montfort is billed as enabling shorter production flows and higher accuracies thanks to complete machining, with soft-turning, laser treatment for hardening, coating and alloying, and hard-turning carried out on one machine. Specially conceived for machining in only one chucking, the unit features a complete modular system for machining and laser treatment. This includes a main and sub-spindle, an upper tool carrier designed as a motorized milling spindle with Z-, X-, Y- and B-axis, a tool changer and tool magazine, a lower tool carrier designed as a tool turret with Z- and X-axis, a tailstock and steady rest, and processing heads with HSK accommodation for laser and laser hardening. As the manufacturers explain, the adapter heads are mounted onto the upper tool carrier, which makes the complete work area of the motorized milling spindle available for laser treatment. The company's special concept of the hydrostatic guideway is also built into the machine, which is said to yield additional advantages for hard-turning thanks to the low degree of friction and the damping effect.
